A group of Ridgeway Rise care home residents recently enjoyed a memorable day out to the picturesque Cotswold village of Eastleach — a place filled with personal meaning, natural beauty, and quiet charm.

For one resident, Joe, the visit was particularly special. Having once been a member of a walking group that frequented the area, Eastleach held fond memories for him. He had often spoken about his wish to return, describing the village as a place of rare tranquility and timeless character. This trip finally made that dream a reality and he got to share it with his friends.

A Warm Welcome

The group began their visit with a stop at the village pub, The Victoria Inn. They were treated to a delicious traditional meal, with hearty pies and classic fish &chips proving to be the favourites of the day. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly service made it a highlight of the outing.

Residents also had the opportunity to chat with the manager, Ludmila, who shared insights into the peaceful rhythm of village life. They were offered thoughtful recommendations on local sights to explore, helping the group make the most of their visit.

Exploring Eastleach’s Natural Beauty & Heritage

Following lunch, the residents took in the beauty of the surrounding area. They visited a stunning stream, where the gentle flow of water and the sounds of nature created a calming backdrop. The group also explored two historic churches in the village. While only one is still in regular use due to the small population, both stood as reminders of the village’s rich heritage.

Memories & Reflections

Before leaving, the residents took time to write in the visitors’ book, sharing their reflections on a truly special day.

Joe summed up his experience beautifully:

“It’s the only place I know where you can hear the silence — a Cotswold village of timeless beauty. Such a wide variety of birdsong. A place which has missed the passage of time. It was wonderful to see it again.”

Another resident, John, added:

“It was a wonderful day and I’m so grateful I could see this beautiful, serene place.”

A Journey Worth Smiling About

The trip was not only an opportunity to enjoy a change of scenery, but also a chance to reconnect with cherished memories, experience the calming power of nature, and share meaningful moments together. It was, by all accounts, a day to remember.

Trevor, our driver, said it was great to witness faces changing into a smile, when they looked through the windows, admiring countryside during the drive. They enjoyed the trip so much and it’s wonderful to be a part of that experience for the residents and giving them something so precious”.
