Residents on the Bus

Stagecoach Trip for the Residents at Ridgeway Rise Care Home

Ridgeway Rise Care Home prepared an exciting surprise for their residents – a trip on a double decker bus provided by Stagecoach Swindon. The residents were given daily tickets and invited on board by Steve, the driver.

Steve took the excited group on a ride to explore the local area. Born and bred Swindonians, were given an opportunity to investigate Tadpole Village, a new area of North Swindon. Those, who didn’t know Swindon very well were delighted by the lovely views Priory Vale had to offer.

People diagnosed with dementia lose their short term memory but are often able to recall older memories. Care provided for those diagnosed includes different forms of stimulation for mind, body and soul; it’s very important to promote their independence and enable them to enjoy their lives to the fullest. The Ridgeway Rise residents were taken down memory lane to times when they were using public transport. The experience triggered reminiscing, one resident said, “It’s just like a normal Monday morning on the way to work, only the seats look better.”

The Residents were chatting, enjoying the views and even singing some songs. Tammy Sommerville, an Activities Coordinator said, “It was heart-warming to see the faces of our residents as they were reliving passed years”.

Ridgeway Rise Care Home is a purpose-built luxury care home in Blunsdon St Andrew, offering nursing, residential, dementia and respite care. Encompassing 73 spacious and beautifully decorated en-suite bedrooms, each one has been designed to offer the residents a high level of comfort and a home-from-home environment.
