A Visit From Draco Dojo Martial Arts

There was a wonderful sense of excitement at Ridgeway Rise recently when the talented team from Draco Dojo Martial Arts Jiu Jitsu joined us for a very special afternoon with our residents. The dojo has been growing steadily in recent years and it was a real pleasure to welcome several of their remarkable young students, many of whom are now part of Team GB!

There was a real buzz of curiosity as the students sat with our residents and began to share their stories of sports they were interested in throughout their youth. The group spoke about how they first found Jiu-Jitsu, the people who inspired them in their early days and what it feels like to walk out onto a mat at national competitions. Their honesty and enthusiasm made the room feel lively and it was lovely to see residents asking questions and being extremely engaged, while commenting on activities that once played such an important part in their younger years.

The highlight of the day came when the students gave a live demonstration of their Jiu-Jitsu skills. Everyone was captivated by the mixture of strength and discipline shown in each movement. The speed and precision of the routines amazed many of our residents and the sound of clapping and cheering filled the room as each demonstration finished.

Once the demonstration ended, the students brought out their medals and trophies to show our residents. They shared the stories behind each award with pride and encouraged our residents to hold them and even try a few on. There were plenty of smiles as photographs were taken, and it was heartwarming to see just how much joy the moment brought to both generations.

Residents spent the rest of the afternoon speaking about their own sporting achievements and the importance of teamwork. Many commented on how uplifting it was to spend time with such polite and enthusiastic young people. We are grateful to Draco's Dojo for their visit and hope to welcome them back soon.
