Activities Programme

At Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we believe that residents should be able to make the most out of each and every day. All of our activities at Ridgeway Rise run 7 days a week, and we encourage all residents to continue doing what makes them happy, whether it’s reading a book in the garden, engaging with incredible visiting entertainers, or participating in arts & crafts sessions. We recognise that activities are crucial for enhancing physical fitness and strength, as they help to remain a high level of independence and support Activities of Daily Living (ADL).

Our Activity Coordinators create weekly diverse programmes that are motivating and accessible, from sing-alongs to baking and film afternoons. For those with memory loss, our Activities Programme includes a variety of activities and alternative therapies such as memory boxes and reminiscence. We love to celebrate special occasions with our residents, and we will always go out of our way to make sure each resident feels loved. We also organise frequent visits to popular places within Swindon and continue to develop wonderful connections with the local community.

A Variety of Stimulating Activities

We strive to create an environment that allows residents to experience positive and memorable moments every day. Once a month, we have a resident meeting where residents can give their feedback, as well as suggest/request activities and choose trips for the whole month. We carefully plan mind, body and soul enrichment for all levels of skills, abilities and interests. We value our residents’ ability to make decisions and manage their lives as much as possible; ensuring residents remain independent.

Our dedicated Activity Coordinators provide residents with multiple opportunities each week to participate in a variety of engaging activities. From shopping trips to the local supermarket and garden centre visits, all the way to feeding ducks in the park and joining organised community events, our team tailors their plans to changing levels of abilities. We try to embrace residents’ past life experiences by offering relatable and generation-appropriate activities. We do the same with our care plans, and how we create them based on our resident’s preferences and biography. At the same time, we introduce the residents to new technologies and solutions, through virtual museum tours, interactive games on tablets, Netflix series’ and emails.

Engaging All Residents

Here at Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we aim to cover a variety of interests for a range of ages and abilities. Our activities programme offers a wide range of activities to suit many individuals, regardless of whether they have limited mobility, live with dementia, or require support with daily tasks. Examples of the type of activities available include pet therapy, arts & crafts, and quizzes, all of which are designed to engage and leave residents laughing and smiling.

We love to celebrate a variety of “themed days”, such as Tuneful Tuesdays and our regular Sunday Service, as well as many others. What’s more, we are pen pals with the local school, which gives our residents inter-generational experiences where they can learn from the children and most certainly the other way round. Here at Ridgeway Rise, we want to prove it is never too late to learn new things. So, whatever our residents learn at their in-house sign-language sessions, or in our very own vegetable patch, they’re more than welcome to share. We also offer school children to use our space for rehearsals for their dance or ballet shows.

Activities Programme FAQs

At Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we enjoy giving residents the opportunity to explore the local community. We have very strong links with our local community and love to take part in events in conjunction with friends and neighbours, such as a recent Alzeimer’s Society Memory Walk. We’re also proud supporters of Swindon Football Club.

We regularly invite entertainers such as singers and musicians into our home, to entertain both residents and staff. Our staff takes great delight in watching residents sing along or tap their feet to the beat. Pet therapy is also offered to residents, where furry animals visit the home and enjoy being petted and fed by the residents.

We believe that a new home should not mean a change in lifestyle and strive to provide a cheerful and stimulating atmosphere for our residents. We take pride in providing activities that are both diverse and inclusive, allowing our residents to get the most out of their stay and reap the various mental and social benefits that a stimulating activities programme can offer.
